Talk:NVC World Project

From NVCWiki
Jump to: navigation, search

Dear Linnea,

I'm appreciative of the letter you sent out informing folks of the possibility of the board "canceling" nvcworld. Somehow it meets my need for inclusion.

In my process of mourning this possibility, I realized my own deep need for a sense of interconnection with the NVC Network (irrespective of any official affiliation with CNVC).

Out of connecting with that need came a request. Would you be willing to help me begin a crude implementation of the nvcworld concept? As you consider the request, I'd like to give you a few details of the proposal:

I recently stumbled across squarespace.com

although i realize that there are other services similar to squarespace, it seems to me to have quite a bit of the functionality i would enjoy seeing in the rough draft of an actualized nvcworld.

squarespace is relatively inexpensive, requires no programming (yet allows some for customization), is scalable, includes multiple editors and various levels of membership.

i believe, using the publicity generated by your letter, and the hunger in the network for connection, we could easily have 50 "members" within one week. financial sustainability seems possible with a minimum "membership fee". what do you think?

if you want, see my iit website's rough draft at nvctrainer.squarespace.com

Jim's response to Linnaea's requests...

I feel happy reading your response and hopeful that our community can interdependently move NVCworld to fruition, sooner rather than later, and at minimal expense. I have posted my original response to you on the Wiki (my first wiki entry! :) ) and I will also include this response as well.

Warmly, Jim

The email dialogue continues:

Jim: Would you be willing to help me begin a crude implementation of the nvcworld concept?

Linnaea: YESSSS!

Jim:I am grateful for the enthusiasm! I also feel a renewed sense of relief about your well-being. My veil of worry and concern has been lifted.

Linnaea: I am touched and deeply moved by your response to my letter. It meets needs of mine for inclusion. Can I send you a hug?

Jim: Consider it received and savored.

Linnaea: So, yes! Yes, I want to work with you and with others. I'm wondering if you'd be willing to add comments to this effect to the nvcwiki? so others who are saying the same sorts of things as you can begin being involved with this?

Jim: done. I put it in the discussion section @ http://en.nvcwiki.com/index.php/Talk:NVC_World_Project Is this what you had in mind?

Linnaea:I'm concerned when we talk about moving towards a specific pre-made solution (squarespace, Drupal, any ready made format) right now, that it may not meet needs of mine for integrity of the NVC process. Let me see if I can bemore specific about what I mean by this. I don't want to just develop something for the NVC community to use - I want to actively develop something that is in itself consistent with NVC using processes that I believe might surface needs of the whole community (this listening deeply process I mentioned in the letter). This can get done with free software and a bit of coding ingenuity if we don't get too hung up on one single approach. Would you be willing to be open to the ideas and thoughts of a whole bunch of really smart techies worldwide who may want to do this, too?

Jim: I remain open to possibility. I do feel a sense of intensity about wanting to see something, anything, out there for people to begin to enjoy one another, offer support, contribute, connect-in other words begin to meet the pent up needs. This Wiki is a part of the mix for me; perhaps a group could form on Skype; perhaps squarespace; the yahoo groups seem to meet some needs right now; I have seen also NVC communities on tribe.net and friendster; perhaps we could create a resource page of everything that already exists on the Wiki as a next step? A catalog of what's in cyberspace already... Everyone who knows of a resource could add to the list, then we could categorize. What do you think?

Linnaea: Some of them seem to have these concepts wired far more effective than I do right now.

Jim: I feel happy with the idea of including a variety of people bringing a cornucopia of gifts, all sharing the same or similar mission and vision.

Linnaea: Just one more thing. I really like the idea that instead of raising money --ie. "someone gives us money, we use it how we see fit to make things happen" --instead we invite a shared sense of belonging such that we are all contributing collectively to the success of something we value. Kind of more like the way a family works. We all get together and figure out how we can contribute to the shared well-being. How would something like that sit with you?

Jim: This meets my needs for interdependence. I like the idea of using NVC Consciousness to mutually craft a life-serving structure focused on Needs. It keeps the door open for future involvement with our allies and partnerships which may support and benefit from the vision/mission of NVCworld, including CNVC and other "affiliates" like NVC-NM, PSNCC, BayNVC, etc. I am also guessing that if we keep inclusion as a high ideal, we will find ways to include those who temporarily have less (financial) resources in this moment.

Linnaea: I really like the idea that words (and the actualities they respresent) like "interdependence", "life-serving structure", "partnerships that support and benefit", and "inclusion as a high ideal" infuse every aspect of both what and how we do NVC World.--Lmarvell 04:19, 20 February 2006 (CET)

I would like to applaud Linnaea’s vision of the NVCWorld project and Jim’s enthusiasm and support for it. It seems to me that the process of the project may benefit by being free from any type of corporate structuring and being open to a natural free flowing energy of those who share this vision of connection. I am wondering if by focusing on the costs involved, or the lack of cost, that we may lose sight of the value of the time and energy and contributions made by who choose to be part of the process. Please know that I am looking forward to contributing in any way possible. Pat

What about starting a topic on NVC World Project page for collecting and sorting needs which want to be met with the help of NVCWorld ? Then we can start to sort them and talk about possible implementations. e.g.

need support/community

possible strategies:

  • could be met by having a online emphaty room.
  • to be continued
  • to be continued

possible solutions:

  • installing an easy web irc client which autoconnects to fix irc channel ond fix server, callable by a wiki page
  • to be continued
  • to be continued

About coming to decisions, how about a glance to the way this Board does it : Wikimedia Foundation - From the board.

To Linnaea : in the page you write « This can get done with free software [...] ». Do you mean free as in free speach, like mentionned here : The Free Software Foundation ? (by the way, plone powered :)
