Tom Caruso

I'm working with the NVC USA Project to assist building an organization that promotes NVC throughout the US by supporting the facilitators, trainers, and practitioners of NVC. My strengths are in organization development and fund raising, with extensive experience in use of technology and a love of NVC as a practitioner, not a trainer. This effort is important to me because it allows me to contribute to world peace, and to experience NVC community which I value.

In my work life I am a pharmacologist, informaticist, project manager, grant writer, researcher, teacher, and entrepreneur. I work at the Virginia-Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine at Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, Virginia where I am Director of Research Initiatives and Adjunct Professor of Biomedical Sciences and Pathobiology.

I come to the NVC USA Project after three years of facilitating the Media:NVC Research Circle http://www.cnvc.org/nvc-research.htm (previously the NVC Research Workgroup or Committee). In this role I have developed a network of people interested in doing research on the effectiveness of NVC in various settings including health care, schools, and prisons. My research with NVC includes working with Sura Hart on the Pacifica Charter School NVC in Schools Project, collaborating on using NVC in a juvenile detention residence, and leading a research effort to study the effects of NVC training on education in 5th grade classrooms in San Diego, California
