There are different approaches to arriving at an understanding of violence in this sense. The first part of the page is more Western-seeming, and the second part is more Eastern (mental formations, dualism). I wonder if there is a useful distinction which can be named here, or if I'm just reacting to the character I am imagining of, say, a German philosopher versus a Vietnamese monk.
